The plants of MODUS company started their production activity as a socialized enterprise in 1945 in Bydgoszcz. They focused a number of small department in different places in the city. MODUS had twelve separate production, support and social agencies, which were in old buildings. Production departments were equipped with different types of outdated sewing machines and hand irons. Owing to this those methods of production differentiate slightly from tailors’ craft workshops. It was 1961 when a new production site was intended to be used in Lenartowicza 33. This enabled bringing together all production and support departments. It also improved working conditions. Modern machines and production equipment were introduced gradually to the new building. The year 1965 was a significant period in mechanization of sewing rooms. That year, the first steam machines for pressing and molding clothes were installed. These machines eliminated onerous and laborious hand ironing. In the years 1969-1970 thorough modernization of machine park was conducted, which consisted of full replacement of used equipment. That was the basis for standardization of technological process at all production departments. Since 1967 the company led also a business activity by a clothes shop. In 1971 the takeover of the Clothing Industry Plant “ORMII” in Miłosław took place, and in 1976, the production branch in Inowrocław was taken over from ZPO "TORPO" in Toruń.
In the 80s, a new department specializing in headgear was built. It was devoted to public usage in 1988. It substituted crowded production rooms, which were in the old building.
In 1992 a clothes warehouse was opened. It aimed at increasing the sales and competing more effectively with other companies by offering lower prices of the goods. In the same year, there was a division of the company under the name : the Clothing Industry Plant „MODUS”. There were four separate and independent enterprises under the names:
Two years later, in 1.08.1994, there was a transforming of a state enterprise into a one-person partnership of the Treasury. In the same year, in order to develop the market sales, a joint-stock company "MODUS - SUBIEKT" S.A was established, on the basis on the one which already existed. “MODUS” S.A. (joint-stock company) was its main shareholder.
On the 12th of September, shares of the company were put into VI NFI Magna Polonia. In 2000 there was another joining of "SUBIEKT" S.A. (joint-stock company) with already existing flagship stores, which belonged to "MODUS" S.A. (joint-stock company).
In the years 1996-2000, either financial and property or organizational restructuring of the enterprises was conducted. The decision was made about selling unnecessary fixed assets, including mainly real estate. The unemployment was diminished. Non-public emission of bonds was closed.
In 27.11.2003, the agreement of selling all the shares belonging to Magna Polonia was concluded. The shares were bought by two natural persons and one legal person. The structure of stock capital changed in 2005. The Treasury sold its shares for one natural and one legal person.
In 2005 a real estate in Lenartowicza street was sold and a building in Sw.Trójcy street was bought. After conversion works, aiming at adjusting the building to conducting a business activity, the company started its functioning in new headquarters in February, 2006.
These days, "MODUS" S.A. (joint-stock company) belongs to one of the biggest producers of men’s clothes. It specializes mainly in sewing official, uniform, business and corporational clothes.
